Visits to Asia-Pacific Region

In recent months, Secretary General of Orbicom, Yves Théorêt, visited the Asia-Pacific region to develop network ties with this part of the world.In June, Dr. Théorêt visited Beijing, and met professors and assistants professors working with Prof. Liu Liqun, member of Orbicom and Chairholder of the UNESCO-CUC Chair in Media and Gender at the Communication University of China.  He also met with the university Vice-president Hu Zhengrong, who showed interest in the Orbicom research project on social media.

Also in June, Dr. Théorêt was invited to deliver a communication on Pluralism and Diversity, in Jakarta, at the Universitas Pancasila, during the FIKOM UP CONFERENCE 2012 on Strategic Communication in a New Media Culture.  On this occasion, Dr. Théorêt and Rector Edie Toet Hendratno signed a memorandum of understanding by which the University and Orbicom committed themselves to work to the creation of a UNESCO chair in Communication. Dr. Andi Faisal Bakti, Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Dr. Théorêt and Pierre Giguère at Orbicom, are now working on this file.

Finally, in July, in Tokyo, Dr. Théorêt met with Mr. Yasuhiko Kawasumi, member of the Orbicom Board of Directors and also with a new member, Mr. Shuji Ando. They discussed how to involve the Japanese colleagues in Orbicom’s ICT projects.
